Community/Intern

Community

M E Cubed Engineering, LLC is committed to giving back to the community. We recognize that the success of our future lies within our youth. Volunteering in various facets of mentorship allows our youth exposure to those who are working in careers that they may be interested in working, but not sure of the details of the job.

Mr. Champion is an advocate for higher education and challenges youth to take themselves beyond their invisible limitations. M E Cubed Engineering, LLC makes sure that at each presentation the students are aware of the educational requirements and salary based on each level of educational accomplishments all the way through to Ph. D.

Atlanta Cares

Atlanta CARES is one of 57 affiliates of the National CARES Mentoring Movement founded by Susan L. Taylor, editor in chief emeritus of Essence Magazine. It was launched in December of 2006, at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where Ms. Taylor met with local faith based leaders, politicians, civic and social leaders convened for the unveiling of her vision to rescue our youth. Upon reviewing and discussing the grim educational statistics of African American children and bringing awareness to the thousands of African American children on the waiting lists of mentoring organizations in Metro Atlanta, these local leaders made a commitment to use their connections and resources to support the recruitment of mentors to salvage the lives of our most vulnerable youth.

M E Cubed Engineering, LLC participated in the Fall 2014 STEMFEST Youth Conference, teaching students how to build working car engine models as teams, with a demonstration at the end of construction to see if each team correctly put together a working model.

Youth Empowerment

In September 2010, The Center For Working Families, Inc. (TCWFI) received a Strategic Enhancement to Mentoring Programs grant through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Grant funds are used to enhance TCWFI’s Parks Pals Mentoring Program, which aims to keep Parks Middle School students away from crime by including parents/guardians in the current program and connecting them to existing wraparound and family services offered by TCWFI. Short-term outcomes include reducing the percentage of youth involved in the juvenile justice system and gangs; increasing the percentage of youth served and mentoring relationships sustained for 12 months; increasing the percentage of students seeing academic achievement and exhibiting prosocial behavior; increasing parent participation in the mentoring program; and increasing the number of mentored families connected to TCWFI adult services.

Mr. Champion gave a power-point presentation that introduced middle and high school students to the fundamentals of the building design engineering field. During the presentation, Mr. Champion explained to the students the process of developing construction documents and the significance of becoming a licensed professional engineer. The presentation also included a visual exhibit of the new Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport project on which Mr. Champion served as the Electrical Engineer of Record.

Atlanta Public Schools: Career Fair

Atlanta Public Schools is organized into nine high school clusters with distinct feeder patterns. Unlike split-feeder patterns, the cluster model allows all students attending a particular elementary school to matriculate to the same middle school, and students enrolled at that middle school will matriculate to the same high school. There are 106 learning sites & programs including two single-gender campuses and 17 charter schools.
M E Cubed Engineering, LLC had the honor of being a career exhibitor at the Atlanta Public Schools College and Career Motivation Week kick-off event, “The Extravaganza.” 900 APS students were invited to attend this event in three (3) rotations throughout the day to hear a high-energy dynamic motivational speaker and speak with 30 colleges and career exhibitors.

Career Day at Carter G. Woodson Primary School:

Mr. Champion spent the day with kindergartners through 3rd grade, demonstrating how electricity is created and sharing what being an Engineer does on his/her day to day job duties. "Sharing my experiences with them was a phenomenal experience. Seeing the fascination in their eyes when they listened AND participated was a priceless experience for ME!", says Mr. Champion, "these children are our future Engineers, and if I encouraged at least one student then I consider that a success".
